Reported
Sina Technology News Beijing time on the evening of October 21st, according to reports, people familiar with the matter said today that Apple’s head of hardware design Evans Hankey will leave. Three years ago, Hankey succeeded Apple design chief Jony Ive as vice president of industrial design and apple’s hardware future design.
Previously, Hankey had worked at Apple for several years, reporting to Ive. In 2019, Ive, the design director who had been with Apple for 20 years, left and was succeeded by Hankey. After becoming head of hardware design, Hankey began reporting to Apple Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jeff Williams.
Apple announced
Apple announced Hankey’s departure internally this week, according to people familiar with the matter. Hankey also told colleagues that she would stay at Apple for the next six months. Currently, Apple has not named Hankey’s successor. At Apple, Hankey managed dozens of industrial designers and apple’s hardware future design.
Hankey’s departure means the first “design chief” vacancy at Apple since Apple co-founder Steve Jobs returned to the helm in the late 1990s and appointed Ive to the role situation.
Apple brings experts:
In response, an Apple spokesperson said in a statement: “Apple’s design team brings together expert creatives from around the world and in many fields to create undeniable Apple products. The design team has many experienced A proven leader. Hankey will remain on board during the transition, and we would like to thank her for her leadership and contributions.”
Apple working on new designs
Currently, Apple is working on some key new devices, including a mixed reality (MR) headset, augmented reality (AR) glasses, and possibly an electric vehicle later in the year. Analysts said the void left by Hankey’s departure could affect Apple’s future design plans and raise the question: What will Apple’s future products look like?
