Third 2017 phone to have Snapdragon 835 processor
While Xiaomi’s CEO recently confirmed that the smartphone will be launching in April, an exact launch date was not known until now. A post by user ‘Cold begs’ on Weibo claims that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will be finally seeing the light of the day in the second part of April, somewhere between April 11 and April 18.
Laying fears of severe supply issues to rest, the post also claims that Xiaomi will have close to 50,000 units of the Xiaomi Mi 6 available in the first week, with the company scaling up production with time.
Xiaomi Mi 6 has been leaked on many occasions, and the flagship is said to be unveiled sometime this month. Running up to the rumoured launch, the device has been spotted on GFXBench revealing key specifications of the device. Separately, the Mi Max 2 has also been leaked on GFXBench, giving us some specification details on the big upcoming phablet as well.
Starting off with the Xiaomi Mi 6, the GFXBench listing reveals that the smartphone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat – an heretofore unreleased version of MIUI, the company’s custom ROM. It will feature a 5.1-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixel) display, and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, paired with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. It is tipped to offer 64GB or 128GB of inbuilt storage as well. As for camera, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is tipped to sport a 12-megapixel rear camera with 4K video recording support and an 8-megapixel front snapper capable of 4K recording as well.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 is set to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor, the Snapdragon 835. Additionally, the device is rumoured to come with a 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, USB Type-C for charging and data transfer and a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button up front.
There are expected to be two different variants of the device – one with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage and a premium version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There is also expected to be a low-end variant of the device which will come with the MediaTek Helio X30 processor.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 may use Sony’s IMX400 camera sensor for its rear camera. This is the same triple-sensor system found in the Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZs and is capable of recording video at an astonishing 960 frames per second.
Certain rumours also claim that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will come in two different versions – one with a 5.15′ display and another with a bigger 5.7 ‘display. On the design front, the Mi 6 is rumoured to come with a curved display, similar to the one found on the Galaxy S6 and Mi Note 2 and a ceramic body like the one found on the Mi Mix.
Xiaomi became popular in China for smartphones that sell out in just minutes. That miracle is commonly attributed to selling mid to high end smartphones at dirt cheap prices. Lately, however, Xiaomi has proven it’s more than willing to play ball with the big guys and has aimed higher, both in specs as well as, sadly, in price.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 is apparently no exception, at least based on this sighting in GFXBench. It is driven by an unmarked Qualcomm processor, though it is clearly the Snapdragon 835 based on the clock speeds. There will be choices of 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage or 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Main camera is a 12 megapixel shooter while the one on the front has 8 megapixels.
The one disappointing aspect of this alleged Xiaomi Mi 6 is that it still lives squarely in Full HD territory. The screen is noted to be a 5.1-inch panel with 1920×1080. While that might translate to cheaper prices and longer battery life, this day and age users pretty much expect QHD on top of the line devices.
While no concrete information is available regarding the price of the Xiaomi Mi 6, the post claims that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will be priced higher than its predecessor, at around CNY 2099.
